Fernando Esquivel
Fernando Esquivel is an assistant fisheries officer within the Capture Fisheries Unit of the Belize Fisheries Department. He is a member of the data collection team responsible for the execution of field work. His tasks include, gathering biological and catch and effort data for the traditional commercial fisheries. Fernando has gained valuable boat handling skills and often serves as the boat captain in the execution of monitoring and field work carried out within the unit. He also helps in the inspections of the fishermen cooperatives that are a needed step for the exportation of fisheries products by the cooperatives.
Fernando has an Associate of Science degree from the Corozal Junior College and has been working for the Belize Fisheries Department for over 7 years. He began working in the Ecosystems Management Unit of the Department under a project as a fisheries technician and has recently transitioned to his role as assistant fisheries officer under the Capture Fisheries Unit.
